is this porthole of a military navy background, or is it a general maritime porthole? It is brass and was found in Hawaii. There are no markings to identify the maker of the porthole. Thank you in advance.

Yikes - if those were the only size portholes on the ship - Id be scared to travel on that one!!

    Maybe from an older sailboat?

It is pretty heavy duty but so were many things way back when. If it's Navy it should have a number somewhere for literally everything should.
With that rounded frame I'd not say Navy though.

You're not getting in or out of any portholes on a ship...... Unless you're tiny.

It's probably bronze because brass corrodes at sea, and off some dinky little day cruiser.

Its off a small boat I doubt military naval.

A friend of mine has one in his entrance hall, its just leaning against the wall but you cannot move it as it is so heavy.
He recovered it by crane whilst saturation diving in the Persian Gulf.
He had it sandblasted to clean it up, really impressive piece.

I'm guessing either it is bigger or he is very puny indeed.
