Hi, I went to my 1st antiques fair at the weekend and bought this ceremonial knife. Well, I think it's a ceremonial knife but not 100% sure. I bought it because it's unusual, I've never seen anything similar, but that's leading to some tough research as I can't find anything like it, or more likely, as I'm not 100% sure what it is I'm probably searching the wrong thing. What's unusual about it is its 2 knives that go into one case. So it separates from the centre and you end up holding two knives, one on each handle.

I think it's oriental, possibly Chinese. Though I don't think its very old, probably new enough to not be classed as antique. (Hope that doesn't get me shunned! Ha)

But if anyone can shed some light on it, that would be great. Any info would be helpful.

    Thanks.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Wow... never saw a thing like it. There are some weaponry/etc. experts on here who will help you, I bet. No shunning! Hola and welcome!
Ohhh... I bet they'll appreciate a view of the open knives... and... any marks anywhere?

Looks like one I brought back from China in the mid-90s. Mine has a different color lacquer and was sold as a souvenir. Yours is a little nicer. Don't know if I still have mine or it moved out with a child. If I do, I'll post a pic.

I thought it may be a "tourist" piece but I guess if they are unusual enough still collectable. I've looked for marks and can't see any. Is some "engraving" but hard to make out pattern. Looks like a dragon of sorts.

I'll get some photos up of the knives in the morning.

    Thanks for replies guys

Well no wonder I have never seen it before if it's a ninja sword! Ha would that make it Japanese rather than Chinese? Or would the Chinese make them for the tourist market? Have to admit, mines not as nice/intricate as those! Hopefully I'll still be able to make a little profit...though gonna find it hard to part with as already though it was cool and now it's made for ninjas!! Nightmare! Ha

Here's a photo of the blades. There are no makers marks or anything so guess that confirms it's a tourist piece. If anyone has any idea of value, that would be helpful. And don't worry, I bought it cheap so I'm not expecting loads. Just wondering what to ask for it. Thanks.
