    Hi,

I am collecting delf porcelain. I recently acquired the attached vase and I would appreciate some clarification on it. Reason is that the mark shown is unique and is not printed on any of my other delf porcelain.

Is this delf? Why is the mark different?

    Thank you

That mark is from the DeWit factory or Keramische Industrie M.de Wit in Gouda according to the book Discovering Dutch Delftware by Van Hook. It says that prior to 1975 they didn't use a mark so yours is post 1975.

Delft is the name of a place that has many factories making pottery. There are also other places that have produced similar products as well as early production from the UK that is often described using a small "d" or delftware.

The Dutch word 'Delfts' in this case means 'in the manner of Delft'.

By the way, welcome to the forum Masood. There is a lot to be learned here, also on Delft, etc.

Here is a good site that has lots of information on modern Delft.

There is also a very old Delft and delftware going back several centuries that can be very interesting (at least to me). Early Dutch and English delftware hold a special place in my personal collecting;)
