ok, I paid $10/plate for this set. I am pretty confident that the mark is that of Fischer and Mieg of Pirkenhammer and dates the piece from 1873-1918. Are these hand painted and could someone provide some guidance on valuation?

    Hi,
Usually they are decals. To check use a magnifying glass to check the fish. if you see dots it is a decal, if you see individual brush strokes they are hand painted. now all you have to do is find the platter.. They are wonderful plates.

Thanks Greg! Pulled the loupe out and definitely transferware. Probably not worth much more than I paid huh?

    Hi,
You bought them to enjoy then it is worth the money. If you bought to resell perhaps I should say good luck. Large sets of the platter and 8 plates used to sell for 125 bucks, I have seen sets sell for 10X as much. They usually were hand painted and nice sets from excellent pottery companies. I remember one set that was wonderful. It had three different size platters and 12 matching plates. The set went for 6 grand!!!!!!! I was at the biding, they were holding between 8 and 9 hundred and I decided to make the plunge and bid 1 grand. I was excited but then someone bid 1500 and then it skyrocketed to 6 grand. I was so excited that they were mine for all of 30 seconds and then they were gone in less than 10 mins.
