ID Mark on pottery lamp, please

    Anyone happen to recognize this mark? I liked it but I ended up leaving it behind and now I can’t shake my curiosity about it.
    The design is incised, if that’s the correct term.

    Although it sort of looks like an asterisk, think you're right & it's a Chinese character impressed in the clay.
