I picked this up at auction today. I rarely deal with the old dolls and generally focus on contemporary dollmakers annette himstedt, r john wright, and xenis. Do we have any antique doll experts out there to tell me to stick to the things that I know best? 21" and in really good shape. Dan
Not an expert by any means, but I have collected a few antique dolls myself. She is lovely. From the position of her eyes she looks to be a flirty eye doll. https://www.rubylane.com/item/1047595-782/O-Kx2aR-Mein-Liebling-Kammer-Reinhardt
Thanks Judy. These (rubylane) were some of the same reference points that I used when I decided to bid. I know that eye color, open/closed mouth, size, flirty eyes, and of course condition and original clothes all matter. Not sure how this doll stacks up in that regard but I am confident that clothes are not original.
I would agree that the clothes are not original to the doll. The coat and hat appear to have been home made.....at least to me without seeing them first hand. The shoes look recent in the picture. Her hands appear to be fine, and assume that the body is also. I think she is adorable.
Is there a mold number on the back of her head or upper back? Have you looked at this page for further identification? http://www.dollreference.com/kammer_reinhardt_dolls.html I don't know much about these sorts of things. Just enough to be dangerous.
I am beginning to think myself as more dangerous. I have a very bad feeling about this after seeing this same exact doll sell for less than half of what I paid in december 2016. Also, I am not seeing the mein liebling "117 n" mark that I would expect. The photo of the back of the head was blurry but I better see that mark when I pick it up. I expect to have a long conversation with the auctioneer tomorrow.
