My wife was given this as a gift by a friend who claimed it was purchased from a museum auction and is of Mesopotamian origin. We're just trying to determine if it is authentic and of such origin.

You’re Welcome. Photos can be uploaded to post, but must be 1 mb or less. Someone else may come along who knows about your pottery.

Hello, KristusApollo. Quite a pantheistic user name you've got there. "Mesopotamian" with no approximate age is a pretty broad field. Such things are on the market & museums do deaccession items from time to time, so not implausible that it is an antiquity. There are also lots of fakes around, but if the friend bought it directly in the museum sale, not from someone who said it was from a museum, it is probably genuine. Maybe another member will have an idea of genuine what.

It looks more like Berber pottery, from Morocco, with that form, the characteristic two small handles, and the long black neck....

    An example of Berber pottery.

Thanks for the info Debora! It definitely looks a lot more like Berber based on the image you found. It gives us a better place to to start researching, thanks!
