Need help identifying a set of candle holders

    Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you could help me in identifying these candle holders? I've spent quite a few hours trying to track them down and although I've found a couple of 19th century pieces that were similar, none were quite right. I'd really appreciate any information that you all can give me.

    A bit about the pair:

    - They weigh in at just under 2lbs each.
    - Measurements 8.5" long and 6" tall.
    - I'm guessing that they're made out of bronze, but i'm not a metal expert. They're not magnetic at all.
    - There is a stamp on the bottom of one of the candle holders that appears to be a J M.

I believe that they break apart into four pieces. The candle holder screws off and the rimmed cup is removable from that piece. There is also a flat head screw and nut on the bottom of the piece so I assume that the dragon/griffin is removable from the base as well.

I've attached some pictures below. Please let me know if there's any other information that you need.

Thanks so much for your help!

Megan, I don't think these have a lot of age to them and they look like brass to me.

I think probably late 19th or early 20th century. Do appear to be tarnished brass. At first I thought maybe worn silverplate but close-ups make me think just brass. These are not the highest quality but I do think they have age. Probably English or maybe Anglo-Indian in origin for the English market.

Cool things-they have my initials so they must be mine! They just have a great look to them-something Dracula would keep around. Look, Christmas is almost here and I don't have a set like that yet, so.....

I would say that they might be Pot Metal. Scrape a little off of bottom and see what color the metal is. They probably are non-ferrous.
