My son found a ring with his metal detector and we are trying to figure out the hallmarks. The "14k •18k" is self explanatory. We cannot find any info on the "K" inside a diamond and the "Y8" on the other side of the band. Closest mark I could find was the stamp for Karlan & Bleicher

    https://www.langantiques.com/university/mark/karlan-bleicher-inc/

But ours is just a K diamond.

On the other side of the band is a "Y8."

Is that in reference to a year?
    1949??

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ❤

8 could be the size if you're in the US. Believe that is called an illusion setting.

The sort of find every detectorist prays for.

    It's not an illusion setting.

OK. Can you give it a name? Always looking to learn.

Not sure if it has a specific name, looks like a basket setting for a square stone which they mounted a round stone into.

It's a hybrid type setting, a 'V' prong but the stone has been fixed by beading rather than the prongs, this is intentional given how thick the prongs are. It does have similarity to an illusion setting given the thickness of the mount, but in illusions the metal has cuts in it. I don't think there is a specific name for this setting, so I would go 'beaded V prong' as a descriptive.

All I can find is a few chains and some pins.
No rings, but that's definitely the same stamp.

Am I the only one who noticed that whereas both the Kohn and Jablow marks are in vertical lozenge shapes, Chris' K mark is in a horizontal lozenge shape?

Not mine either, I don't know enough about US jewellery. I was just wondering, because the focus seems to be on the vertical marks.

I noticed that when I 1st started looking after my son found it. I found both those companies on Lang, but the vertical and the textured background threw me off. It was the link to the chain with the same stamp and when you search for ALOIS KOHN you'll find a few things for sale out there, all with same stamp.
No rings and I still can't find any.
