If you are looking at this thread then the title/pictures should not offend so read on! Are these bowls, measuring 4 1/4" wide and 2 3/4" tall, new or old? Thanks for any info!

Loosely in the tradition of the Japanese pillow book. Sake cups.

    Hi,
I have an older one circa 1920 and it is wonderful. It looks more like a painting than a "cartoon" one.

They aren't identical (in drawing or in placement of color(s)) in the strictest sense of that word. So does that mean each was hand-drawn and hand-colored or . . . ??????

I can't even determine what they are doing or what they think they are doing or what they just finished doing or what they don't want to do at all.

Well... I mean... they're stuck in those tiny little bowls and all...

    Perhaps consciously uncoupling?

If they are meant as "cartoons" I would have added near the inside upper rim a (word) balloon with only one word in all caps followed by exclamation marks -- FIRE!!!

Can you just imagine seeing that while unknowingly tipping your bowl to slurp up the last bit of miso with noodles? :yuck:

I can imagine a teenaged boy hoping he gets one of those bowls instead of one of the plain ones.
