    Hey folks!

Purchased this lovely Satsuma item for few euros and it is probably not worth much, but it is still quite nice piece. I know it is Satsuma, but any additional information would be great to know. When was it made and is it a vase or urn or something else?
Quite heavy and height approx. 32 cm (12.5 inches).

    Thanks in advance!
    Erik

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news, but it isn't Satsuma. It is a Chinese decorative ceramic made by a company called 'Royal Satsuma'. It's not made of the same clay as Satsuma, nor made in the Kagoshima region of Japan where Satsuma was produced.

This Chinese company uses the name to leech off the history of Satsuma ware. Given the spelling error on this one it's probably 1980's period. It is hand decorated, and you can call it Satsuma style. Covered vase or lidded urn would both be fine as descriptors.

1980 Chinese Royal Satsuma. Occasionally there is a good Chinese artist that works in one of the more creative factories that aspire to make something worthwhile and some of them can be half decent with good workmanship and I am not sure you found that one, I am quite sure you haven't. :) :playful:
