This is a bracelet that belongs to my sister. I'm having trouble identifying what is written around the stamped circle. The stone looks like green glass, it's somewhat translucent. It has not yet been polished, and has a sort of odd grayish silver look to it? I can read "Tasco" and "Gigi," but that's it. What do you think?

    It is beautiful, Renee.
What looks like Gigi is actually Sigi, for Sigfredo Pineda, an award winning maker.
In the circle it simply says 'sterling hecho en mexico'.:)

Pineda opened his shop in 1952, and it was later renamed 'Sigi'. I can't find a date for the name change.

Thank you so much! Do you think the stone is glass?

It looks like glass. Many Taxco makers used glass, and still do.

Don't worry about the color of the metal, it's just tarnished. It will clean up beautifully with silver polish :)

Love Sigi and he frequently used glass. I no longer have it but I owned a huge Sigi pin with green glass. That’s a terrific collectible bracelet.

Those are different marks, the mark above says what I said it does, it is a mark often used by Sigi.
    No, it is not.
If you know your vintage (not antique) Taxco jewellery, you will know that many of those you googled (again) are in fact glass, not dyed Mexican onyx. As I said before, Taxco makers often used glass.

Mine was definitely glass and IMO the OP’s is glass too. Respectfully the OPs is not onyx or jade.

Is there a hairline fracture in that glass cabochon?

Those look like thin clear swirls in the glass to me. That, along with the colours, is what made me think of glass.
Maybe it is easier to see like this:

    Edit:
@antidiem , I think you are right, there seems to be a hairline crack on the left, on the photo above. Hardly visible though.

Y'all are just so silly - we know that if you just search google or bing, they know all, so if the result comes up "either green onyx or Jade", then it must be true...;)

I learned my lesson about 20 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with a serious disease. I had never heard of it so I looked it up and read he’d be dead in 6 months. Don’t ask!

Anyway, here we are 20 years later and yes, he’s on a ton of medication but still had no issue doing all the driving on 2000 miles last month through the SW. (I’m happy to drive but he won’t let me when we’re together LOL).
