The back. 795 impressed into the wood. 795, a catalog number? A pattern number?

As you can see, there's a bad crack in the wood on the right hand side. Is there any gentle way to inject glue in there? It's just hanging by a thread, so to speak. Maybe I should just break it off without trying to be gentle, then glue and clamp it. And should I use wood glue or mucilage glue?

I see people calling similar little folding shelves Eastlake or just generically Victorian. What's the real scoop? And what kind of wood is this made from? Thanks!

I have two and have had more at different times. Never saw a number impressed on any. I'm wondering about the fact that the carving is uneven - it should be a mirror image. I wonder if this was a kit of some kind.

    001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG Hi,
I think this was made at home from a design. Here is one that I made when I was 6. My Gramps helped me with the design, but I had to do the work.
    It has a "hidden" drawer.

I would not call this Eastlake. Victorian for sure with some elements of Renaissance Revival period. Likely a mail-order or sales premium piece, hence the folding aspect.

    Hi Johnny,
Thanks, it was my "safety deposit box" when I was a kid. It was a lot of work for a kid but it was the only thing my Gramp said I did a nice job on. He was usually so critical of anything I tried to do. It was supposed to have a tiny handle to open but I thought it was special to have a secrete surprise
