I found this in a local thrift store & thought it was a toby mug at first - until I went to pick it up & almost dropped it when the hat came off!
There is no markings except the number 29 (or 62?) - is this a toby or from the company?
    Thanks

I don't know who made yours but Royal Doulton made the most famous character jugs and I'd expect them to be well marked.

Usually Tobys (what's the plural for Toby, Tobies?) are full body and the face ones are character jugs/mugs but people seem to use the terms in tandem. It might give you additional search terms though.

    Hello,

I saw your post. Don't know if you still have this. It's interesting. Perhaps it is a tobacco jar or a jar of some kind. It's definitely toby related. I'm a 40 yr toby collector. There are tobys which are full body jugs and then character jugs which are just the heads. Obviously yours is just the head. Other items were made beside jugs in the family of tobys. Tobacco is as good as guess as I could say as well.

The mark you are looking at on the bottom "62" or "26" has been added. It's not the original mark. The original mark has been impressed into the bottom of the jug. There's not much to go on, so I'm not sure what it says. I see 2 things impressed into the bottom and both are small but these are the marks. The other someone has just written with a marker and with come off with an alcohol wipe.

I do not think this is old, but I do think its English. I hope this helps.

    Good luck,
    Dana
