What are these jars in "practical Magic"?

My love for all-things vintage was first sparked in the late 1990s when I saw the film, "Practical Magic"! And, the set design continues to inspire me to this day! I was wondering, however, if anyone could tell me anything about the large amber-color jars with the black lids and writing across them to the right of Gilian/ Nicole Kidman?

They may just be props - I'm sure if they were real jars from some manufacturer there would be lawsuits and/or payouts. But I've been wrong before!! :banghead:

Well, I'm thinking they are antiques from somewhere since I feel as though I've seen them somewhere before over the years.

The general term would be apothecary jars.
For a film I expect a prop man would make some with the right general look.

Whatever they are, I would suspect they are commercial product because that's the cheapest way to get them.

There's a booming business renting props for movies, TV, theater. You might not think so, but it's the cheapest way to go and it eliminates the problem of what to do with the item after the production. All kinds of things are rented... big, small, doesn't matter. If they're only needed briefly, why buy them? And what dealer's going to complain? They get money for the item, then get the item back with the selling point that it was in this movie or that TV show.

It's really hard to make out much from this photo. They appear to be stoneware and maybe with silver rims or lids. I never saw the movie and youtube "kitchen scene" search gives me margaritas but I didn't see these in that scene. Any chance for a clearer photo or at least a guide to which part of the movie?

I don't know if Doulton Lambeth ever made such a thing but maybe.

    Hi moreotherstuff,
When I lived in Brooklyn I used to sell a lot of stuff to the movie people. In the beginning they used to rent the stuff but then they only bought the stuff. There was so much breakage and "missplacing" also known as stealing. Everybody's favorite "Christmas Story" bought all of the Fiestaware used in the movie from me. A friend used to have a junk store that sold a lot of stuff to movie people, he was the one who introduced me to them. We sold clothes, furniture and other stuff used in the movies.

And I still rent/sell to local theatre groups.............get in good with the prop master that handles a few troupes and you can get some good exposure.

i had a friend that had a business supplying props to the movies..and his business was antiques. He was a buyer and then would rent them out to the movie studios. So they very well could be antiques. IMHO
