Thanks for helping. I have an antique lamp that I want to sell, possibly. I need to know what period it is, the genre, and it's potential value. It has a cloth cord. It is metal (brass?) and some sort of ceramic. Note the painted picture of the lord and lady on it. It doesn't have any maker's mark or lettering anywhere on it that I can see. Thanks !! Am attaching 3 pics.

Hi, Lager and welcome! Your lamp wouldn't be considered antique because it's not 100+ years old. It is vintage and likely dates to somewhere between 1930-1950. The shade doesn't appear to be original which could effect resale value. The design is typically referred to as a "courting couple" and was inspired by paintings by the French Rococo artist Fragonard (1732-1806.)

An example of a painting by Fragonard.

Thanks, Debora. What do you think I should ask for it if selling to someone who appreciates vintage lamps? Do you think an antique store would buy it?

Lager, we typically don't do valuations here because there are so many variables (market, condition, etc.) What I suggest you do is... Go to eBay, click on Advanced in the upper right hand corner, enter some key words identifying your lamp and then check Completed items. That will give you an idea of collector interest.

    Welcome, Lager!
You don't mention where in the world you live. (This is an international forum.) Location is a very important variable when determining price. Also, would you be willing to go to the risk to ship your item? Shipping a lamp is costly and yours is breakable. If not, and you are then limited to selling locally, price is often significantly affected.
Also, when it comes to lamps, people often want a pair.
You don't include a close-up photo of the courting couple but my bet is that it's a decal, not hand-painted.
I live in a midwest USA large suburban area. I do see lamps of your type (vintage, courting couple, ceramic) occasionally in my local thrift stores and at estate sales, they are not unusual here. Courting couple stuff was very popular, my best friend has a huge set of cc dishes she inherited from her grandmother! She tried to sell them via our local FB Marketplace for $150 but had no takers so they live in boxes in her basement.
If I had a single lamp of that type, in excellent condition, I would hope to achieve around $25 US for it.

Bluums, your reply was quite useful. Thank you.

I live in eastern Pennsylvania in the U.S.

I followed Debora's advice, looked on Ebay for sold prices for similar lamps, and I placed the lamp on Facebook Marketplace for $15. I would be surprised to have anyone interested, however.

I might have to give it away to someone I know would like it.

I just inherited a lot of vintage furniture, paintings, sculptures, etc from my mother. I will keep some things, since they are so nice, but will try to sell others, like this lamp.

My living room looks like an antique store, lol.
