    Hi folks

picked this up today for a fiver, about the only thing i found all day. glass was covered in mold so you couldn't really see the painting well.

not really sure what medium it is, like a thin oil or gouache i think

nor really my type of painting but still has charm i think

no signatures, but havent taken it out of the frame, so might have something on back

i'm thinking quite old judging by the frame, maybe victorian

    any thoughts or info appreciated

You may be right re earlier. Certainly inspired by Julius Adam and his dates are 1852-1913.

It definitely looks like a copy of something else. Photo or previous work. The painting was done awfully dry...acrylic maybe? Maybe gouche.

i think it might be a quite nice watercolour now its out of its frame, with maybe gouache for the white

but the black looks like watercolour and on watercolour type paper

i'm quite impressed with it now, like the carpet or rug

been painted into a frame by the looks

    no signatures though :(

You can combine gouache and other media like watercolor or ink wash. You can also thin any paint to do washes/glazes.

The carpet is the most appealing part of the painting, IMHO. I think the execution of the cats is rather amateur.

Agree. Do think a copy. By Julius Adam or other.
