    Hi again,

The seller listed this as a Payton, Pepper & Co brooch. It arrived today and I’m very happy to have it however, the mark on the brooch doesn’t match with what I’ve found online for Payton, Pepper & Sons Ltd. CEE44FDB-584F-46D7-AD6C-05C85E15B394.jpeg 49503957-EC4C-4BC5-8BF7-23CE356F2F3F.jpeg

My question is, is it perhaps a variation of the brands’ mark or is this actually some other brand altogether? I may of course be looking in the wrong places for marks to compare it to. 3EA0B009-D9B8-4FAD-85D1-2D07E410BA93.jpeg

Any input or comments are appreciated. :shame:

You are spectacular. Thank you so much!

They had it listed as much older vs what the links show. I’m always skeptical on what someone is listing as details for an item but in this case I liked it enough to take a gamble anyway and buy it. I’m glad I did, the clasp works beautiful for it’s age.

    Older? When did they say?

Always glad to help. It's very nice!

1841 lol but it’s still an antique at 1892.

:jawdrop: So that person doesn't understand the significance and use of the monarch's head mark - which does not appear on the item and therefore negates the possibility of it being assayed in 1841.

It appears not but I as a buyer should also be more vigilant and diligent before purchasing. I got lucky.

Well, I'm at least glad you had the forum to come to and that you got a chance to learn something you'll be able to use in the future (so you don't always have to be "lucky.")

Never your fault, B. Yes, research helps, but you can't know everything. The seller had it in his/her hands and posted information. As we know, seller's information isn't always accurate.
But it is a sweetie, and typical of the period, with still some Aesthetic influence.
