Featured Ivory ring

    I have this, Old hand carved ring something looks like ivory. Im sure it's not a white coral....! Any help plz

    Not ivory.
    It's the top of a shell. Sorry, I can't remember what type of shell these are made from.

    Think it would be easier to cut something like a conch shell than the fairly flat topped cone family. You might even be able to get 2 or 3 from one shell & get the emptied shells for little or nothing from restaurants featuring conch chowder etc.

    As suggested, cone shell, we used to buy them at surf shops and shell stores for around a buck in the '70s - they're cut from the heavy tops of the shells...

    So popular in the seventies! (At least in Florida)

    Search on "strombus shell ring" and they're still available in bulk.

    Yep, I'm on the conch train.
