I've always ignored Haviland, but @bercrystal and @Ownedbybear mentioned on another link that it could be good, so here's my test case. 19th century I think, and factory decorated. Large covered sugar bowl in perfect condition - there is a matching teapot too, but that is missing the end of the broken spout so I think worthless, but I included the marks from that as well in case they're useful. You can see an English registration diamond on the base of both pieces, but I can't make out all the numbers. Each grid line is an inch, so it is about seven inches high with top, and about six inches wide.

So should I never look at H&Co again?

I do know that your piece is done on the Cable blank & your pattern appears to be Meadow Vistors.

    https://www.replacements.com/webquote/h__mevisi.htm

I think your time frame would be correct as my reference puts this blank in the 1850 to 1890 range.

Unfortunately my crystal ball is malfunctioning tonight, so I won't be able to predict if you picked a winner or not. You & I both know there is only one way to find out the answer to that question. You will have to put it out there to see what will happen.:happy::happy:

BTW kudos for going outside your comfort zone to try something different.:kiss:

By the way, Jeff, I've had good luck selling porcelain with bugs on it so take good pictures of the bugs!

That Sugar is definitely a winner!! Meadow Visitors has always been one of the most popular Haviland patterns. And in perfect condition, well, that's rare in itself. Nice find!

From strictly an aesthetic viewpoint, the market for "rigorously symmetrical little pink roses ad nauseam" Haviland is dead. But, your sugar bowl, a very nice example of the Aesthetic Movement/Japonisme style, is very in, as it crosses over into the Arts and Crafts collectors taste. It should sell well!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Love butterflies (and some other insects) on ceramic items! This one is charming.

Thank you all! So much great info!. Now oldish porcelain with bugs - one more thing to look for (as if there weren't enough things to look for already!)

@Aquitaine - wow I am impressed by the improvement you made in visibility. I couldn't see anything holding it in my hand. Is there any way to bring out pencil on wood; I have a couple pieces that I can't read?

Think it might be 22 March 1861.

From my experience here, I haven't had a lot of luck trying to bring information up and out of wood, actually.....maybe others have......?
