It may have been sitting in a back room. They do that sometimes. Glad you rescued them!

Thanks for your input and congratulations everyone! Info on the last three plates from the same Facebook group:

"Excellent additions. The first dish is circa 1774-1814, the others second half nineteenth century and outside decorated."

I also found some other interesting items aside from the Meissen at the ReStore today, I will share those in a different thread if anyone is interested!

Just got an auto generated email from Sotheby's to say they are unable to sell the Meissen items, no reason given other than, "Please note that Sotheby’s adheres to specific guidelines that ensure we accept items we have both the expertise on and the market to sell". Oh well their loss, onwards and upwards :meh:

They rejected a bonafide, authenticated 18th century Chinese bronze censer I asked them about once. Granted it was only appraised at $500-$600 or so. If it had been with additional more valuable things I think they’d have taken it. Since it was the only thing from an unknown consignor I think it just wasn’t worth their time. Maybe someone here knows about an auction house that does specialized porcelain events? I think many auction houses would break these into 2-3 lots and you’d just end up getting $100-$200 per lot or so if three lots, a bit more of two lots. You might even do best putting them on eBay if you can find some good comps and don’t mind waiting for the right customer. Just my two cents.

I will contact another few auction houses that look like they might have a better return on items otherwise I will sell on Etsy or Ebay! I will avoid snooty Sotheby's

Pity their response was so vague and lacklustre!

Bonhams or Waddingtons in Canada are a couple more choices, but listed properly on eBay might be a good bet.

Good idea! I actually reached out to A.H Wilkens Auctions and appraisals and they replied pretty quickly with a much nicer response than Sotheby's. They shared this link of a past sale with early Meissen:

Fine & Decorative Arts Session II | A.H. Wilkens

and asked if I was ok with those kinds of figures as a guide, then they would be happy to take consignment of the items. I just need to make sure they are ok with me shipping them to Toronto (I'm in Alberta) then I think I may go with them!

That's great! Just put of interest, what sort of prices did they realize? In this current political scene, going with a Canadian auction house is a good thing.

is it though....... currently our economists are worried about a full blow recession here should massive US tariffs, and Canadian counter tariffs stick around for any length of time..!

Make sure you set a minimum! I made the mistake of bringing a couple of rather nice pieces of furniture to an auction house and didn't set a minimum and they sold for a fraction of their worth. The auctioneer looked pleased with himself so I suspected he had a friend buy them. It's the most reputable one in the area, but it doesn't preclude oversight by the seller.

If you click the link on my previous post, you can see the whole auction results (it's from 2024). Here is a snip of some of the item results:

So I have been the ultimate stalker to my new honey hole this week and it paid off again today! The chamber/candle stick is similar to a dish I found in the beginning (later 19th century)-might sell on Ebay or Etsy as not as rare as the earlier pieces but still pretty. The second piece is interesting-it is likely a sugar bowl with the metal part added later. I actually left it behind the last time I was there because it was unmarked but took a chance with it this time as it looked so similar to some of the other marked pieces. Glad I did as the Meissen collector group on Facebook said:

"Meissen had many pieces with unglazed bases and over time the marks faded... tea caddys, figurines are a few", "...yes, I think unmarked Meissen. Objects with bisque/unglazed bases either weren’t marked or the cobalt burnt off in the firing. Maybe late 1730s (?)".

    Learnt something new today!
