IMG_4569.jpeg IMG_4551.jpeg IMG_4566.jpeg IMG_4563.jpeg IMG_4562.jpeg IMG_4565.jpeg IMG_4564.jpeg Hi all, this ink drawing seams to be done on older parchment? The frame obviously looks modern (maybe from 90’s onwards?) Is this an original ink drawing or a
print? Any idea regarding the artist name and stamp? Age of artwork? The frame size is 34x31cm. Many thanks

A nude, done by an experienced hand. Whether it is semi-erotic is in the eye of the beholder.;)

Hard to tell if it is an ink drawing or print, based on the photos. It is on handmade paper, rather than parchment (which is prepared animal skin).

The signature might be something like L Bao, which would suggest Chinese. Both Chinese and Japanese artists do like their cats.

Thank you AJ,a ‘nude’ it is. On second thought there’s probably not much erotic about it..

Appreciate the reply. I will search L Bao..
Also I really didn’t know that about parchment (good to learn, thanks) So handmade paper (sounds a bit possible at least) Also not too sure about print or not. Probably need to take it out of the frame. Currently thinking probably print.. I also see that you are right about the popular cats subject.
    Thank you again..

i rather like that, looks to have natural foxing in areas so would think it wasn't made yesterday either, its a strong image

if i had to put money on it i'd say it was hand done, but could be a copy of something

if you look where her hair ends on that gray area, it goes right to the edge.
if you look at that edge and paint is on that edge, you should be able to tell

I think it was made with sumi-e, Japanese ink, so you wouldn't see paint.

Definitely a nude taking a cat nap and not erotic (unfortunately ).

Handmade papers can be purchased in bulk and used in print making to give the feel of a real painting, just like some things get printed on canvas. I would take a closer look at where the paint feathers out and see if that matches the natural texture of the paper.

Whoever drew this, he couldn't do human feet nearly as well as furry ones. Not that I mind...it's a cat picture with a human in it. Just ask the cat.

Thanks for the reply. Good comments regarding the foxing and the ink that goes absolutely right to the very edge. I will try and get some close-up photos also.

Thanks the reply. So maybe an older print (foxing as Charlie rightly pointed out) As per your suggestion I tried to look at the ink in relation to the natural texture of the paper (unfortunately Iam not unknowable enough to make my mind up about what Iam seeing)

IMG_4599.jpeg IMG_4598.jpeg IMG_4597.jpeg IMG_4601.jpeg IMG_4602.jpeg IMG_4600.jpeg So I have tried to take some close-up photos around the head area, edge of paper and fanning out of the ink and such (if that helps)I have also been looking at other examples of sumi-e ink paintings. And Iam really not sure but now Iam thinking it might be an original artwork and not a print? Any further opinions? Thanks all
