Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone might have some information for the markings on this tea set. These are from a larger set that I recently inherited. From what I have been able to deduce online it's likely early 1900s. Full set was the tea pot with lid, 11 cups and saucers, 11 cake plates, 2 desert plates, a sugar bowl and lid, cream jug and lid, and whey bowl. Digging around on these forums I've also learned this is aparently something that was pretty standard for the time, one user said "everyone's grandma had one"... and yes this was my step dad's grandmother's. Lol. What's making me crazy is I can't find the mark anywhere. I've looked at several sites that list markings of the era, but no luck. I can't even find it on the pinned threads here. Any ideas? I don't care about the value as this is a "keep it in the family piece" but he doesn't know a lot about them and I love learning about things.

It looks like Kutani to me. Lovely!

Beautiful, with those cranes against pastel colours.
Ditto. This page has Kutani marks and info:

Becky, this is a resource site you should bookmark, it is brilliant for identifying Chinese and Japanese marks.

Sadly that’s one of the first sites I visited when I was trying to look up markings. I can’t find it on there. I also clicked the specific link you provided to double check, but while it is similar, there’s nothing in the Kutani marks I see that have the kanji for River like this piece does in the middle of the mark. Most of the marks on the site in similar stylings include the kanji for mountain. The top of this piece’s marking looks like hiragana for ‘chi’, which means the first part could be translated as ‘chikawa’ but the last kanji character stumps me.

Ah, that's a pretty set. Yes, early 20th c, I figure c1920s from others with this type of decoration. I suggested in another thread that maybe Google lens is worth a try and perhaps it can give you a lead.
