    Hi folks

picked this up at a boot sale yesterday(10)

bought it for the workmanship to be honest, and its quite nice but have no idea on the age

some of the modern bali carvings are still very nice so could be modernish

if i had to guesstimate i would think maybe 70s,as it looks to have a little age

was cheap because there is a bit of damage here and there

a split in the grain (on back), and a bit of one edge missing

still think its lovely and couldn't pass it by

    any thoughts or info appreciated

    It looks 1970s to me.

The artist's name is Wayan Natra (Wy is short for Wayan). Wayan is a man's name.
The second line seems to refer to Bekul, which is in the Buleleng regency on the north coast of Bali.
Then it says Balun DPR. DPR is Den Pasar, the capital of Bali. There is a Balun Hotel in Den Pasar.

So my guess is that Wayan Natra from Bekul carved scenes like this to be sold in the Balun Hotel in Den Pasar.

Could be, but not traditional. The painted details look from the general Javanese cultural area, Java-Madura-Bali. If it is a bull it could be Madurese, they're obsessed with bulls.

That's a lovely carving mate and fantastic knowledge from AJ. Bit better than my car boot finds.

That’s cool. Makes me think somewhat of this. Identified possibly as:a Laurel Burch Mayan tribal wooden carved wall hanging mask. Was about $1. Also not old 80-90’s. Seems a lot of these types of things are from Mexico.

Sorry Boland- Motif-wise I don't see much similarity btw Yours & Charlie's (construction technique maybe ?).
Your piece does def look a Laurel Burch piece though.
Yep,back in the early 80's it was all Laurel Burch,Mary Engelbreit, Bev Doolittle and for fashion-Liz Claiborne (shoulder pads !).

By the way Charlie-lovely piece, I would've grabbed it for a tenner. What's your guess value-wise on Bay ?
