Featured neolithic jade axe??

Is this a neolithic jade/greenstone axe and from wich country? It is very heavy and very hard and comes out of a private collection.

 

It looks more like diabase/dolerite/diorite.

Similar deposits occur in many parts of the world, and have been used to make similar celts for thousands of years by many cultures.

You may need to find a geologist who can examine it under magnification to determine the mineralogy.

 

oke thanks, have looked with my 10x loupe and defently not jade more serpentine but am not sure very complex crystal formation. does not atract a magnet.

Stunner of a piece! I have a few stone celts. I don’t know an awful lot about them but they such amazing pieces of craftsmanship. There are few things more tactile and more able to transport you back in time for a moment.

 

yes very tactile can't put it down. so it is old but love to know how old.

 

I’d say that’s going to be pretty damn close to impossible without any provenance. The right expert could probably only take a chop at it. Hand working your own tools and weapons with your survival depending on it must have satisfying. …when you got it right at least.
