"Flying Frog" by R. Tait, which I'm assuming is Nisga Robert "Chip" Tait (?).

Is there any chance that this is unfinished? There's some raised sections that seem a little like they'd want to be painted black; picture 5, for example.

    Thanks for any comments.

under the eye , tongue and shoulder joint could take some green paint..... it's a frog... but it's a simple design , so , artists choice !!!

    Robert sounds right !

Would it be signed if it wasn't finished? I think he went for a minimalist look.

Bev aka thelmasstuff Colored pencil artist extraordinaire ;)

Is it possible it was unpainted and someone else painted the red?

    That's a good point AJ. I guess I don't think so.

That's possible, Bev, for sure. But I also think the tone / shade of the red paint looks 'correct' compared to other carvings I've seen, and so I'd be inclined to think the artist did it.

Maybe @komokwa will have an opinion on the color itself.

    Thanks for that research @TallCakes!

@Potteryplease 's carving is fresh , but not new.
The smaller sized window pane flat plaque and rope suggest that.
Robert's siggy is hard to come by...... Randy's is not .
Randy's name includes his middle initial .

Not many artists try the flying frog. It's an older , less used crest.

.The plaque is signed and finished by the artist as he wanted it to be , using red as the primary formline color. No secondary or tertiary colors.

Yes...I have opinions.... @Potteryplease .. gleaned from 35 years in the 1st Nations art business , but I'm always willing to be questioned or proven wrong.

I wasn't there when it was carved , but this is how I see things to be.

Once again, thanks for your informed analysis! I agree and am now thinking that the red, alone, was intentional and that the plaque is 'finished.'

(I'm still a bit amazed that experts here so freely give their time and insight to me and my finds! It's always appreciated.)
