    Hi all,
I was hoping somebody could help me identify the maker of this brass cup or beaker. It has a partial maker's mark, along with a square stamp containing what appears to be a crescent moon and star. It measures approximately 3"h X 3" diameter at mouth. Many thanks! brass cup 1.jpg brass cup 2.jpg

19th century French silverplate, worn to the brass base - the partially obscured bottom mark should read 'PDERUOLZ', referring to Henri de Ruolz's electroplating patent (Ruolz-ware), the square mark would be the maker's and I can't quite make it out...

@DragonflyWink Interesting! Obviously? the same person as my "M. De Buolz" ..but my documents were sourced from the digital archive that probably used an OCR that read the original letterpress typeface for Ruolz as Buolz!

I had this happen in the 90's when I OCR'd an old book on the care and repair of Japanese prints - Anything in the italic face, especially Japanese technical terms were mis-read and the whole book required quite a bit of proof-reading and editing to correct.
I'm not sure Archive.org has enough manpower or the time to proof all the docs it digitizes ..so errors like this will crop up from time to time.

Glad you sorted it though, well done!

Don't know that I sorted through anything, just posted information I've been aware of for years (Christofle used Ruolz's process, and the name appears on some of their old pieces).

Sorry - misread "sorted it though" (an odd phrase to me), but still didn't do any type of sorting, just posted info...
