Kneeling monk little statue

Maybe painted bronze? Possible age please? Standing about 13cm tall. Weighs about 750g. Thanks for any responses

    It is a charming gilded bronze Buddha from Thailand, kneeling in prayer.
    The gilding looks painted and it is, a gold and mercury mix which is painted on and fired. The mercury evaporates and the gold remains (don't try this at home). The term is fire gilding.
    There is not much wear on the base. My guess is mid-20th century.

    Good to know AJ. Many thanks for the information and for sharing your knowledge. The process definitely sounds potentially problematic to your health (but very interesting)
