A novelty pickle fork. I wanted to know if this was an original design, or someone modified it to look like this.
I know someone at the local flea who makes jewelry out of spoons and forks. Last week he had a few where he took silver spoons, cut halfway up the bowl and hammered them so they look like whales tails. They are nice but I cringed because the new ones were sterling and had lovely floral patterns at the top of the bowl. I'm not a big fan of repurposing nice old pieces by doing something with them that destroys their original function. I would rather have the nice spoons as spoons. Just as I would rather have old rhinestone jewelry as jewelry rather than have their backs broken so they can be hot glued as a framed Christmas tree. JMHO
There is still a number of people making jewelry with spoons, etc. Tools available.... https://wrapsodyjewelry.com/silverwearbender
I agree that I hate to see antiques "repurposed" based on TikTok lame craft ideas. Long ago we used to go to the Wellfleet Flea Market. One Sunday after it closed there were two young guys taking glassware out of boxes in the back of their truck and smashing it in the big trash barrels. I was horrified. They laughed and said they always did this with whatever didn't sell because it made everything left more valuable. .
That's just a flea market. Think of all the beautiful items that are thrown in dumpsters every day by uncaring relatives or estate managers of a decedent who don't recognize value or just can't be bothered.
We have one estate sale person who starts throwing out the excess while people are still shopping. She has the dump truck parked in the driveway so her workers can empty out the house. She has very limited hours also like 9 am to 12 pm. One day we were standing in line waiting for the sale to start, and her crew started throwing out those big Vintage Plastic Christmas Decor items for the lawn. A person standing in line near me, ran to the truck and asked if she could have them. They gave them to her. I was standing in a bedroom at that sale and crew started grabbing things off the dresser, bed, closet to throw out. I left the sale because there was no point in it anymore.
That's one I've never seen, although there have been times when the best item I scored was from a trash pile outside.
Well uh...I guess they were playing the long, long, longggg game?? Those vintage blow molds are selling again so that was dumb. You should have just told the crew you'd take the bedroom stuff yourself for free. In fact I don't know why everyone at the sale didn't offer to "pitch in" and scoop up what they wanted for free and drop the rest at the dumpster. Wouldn't want her to have to get a second dumpster, after all. Geez.
The whole experience with that estate person is so weird. I have found some wonderful things at times and other times nada. She lets everyone one in when the doors open and it is chaotic to say the least.
