Idle hands are dangerous when late night surfing local auction houses. Bid unseen on a box of costume jewellery as I could see some lovely beads.
Nice surprise to find these three in a bag of cheap costume bits.
9ct Lapis? and Pearl earrings look a bit homemade.
A pair of Diamond and white gold Pearl earrings. Can't find a stamp yet but need to find my good loupe. I really struggle with pearls to know what's what. Obvious when the coating is chipped but otherwise I don't know what I'm looking at!. 14 diamonds in each.
A 9ct ring with an odd stone. My spiffy new gem tester slightly sat in the corner saying 'I dunno, but it's pretty hard' (says Jadeite/Nephrite). It's a really odd colour being slightly translucent white on the top and orangey red underneath?.
Love any thoughts on these bits :)
I'll go through the other stuff and photo the good bits tomorrow
    Thankyou

The stone in the ring looks like carnelian and the lighting and focus could be better.

I don't see anything in these pics that resembles lapis - at least not what I know as lapis. Are you referring to the dark beads in the first individual picture?

I don't know if there's a name for a stone with this coloring, but when the under layer is black & the top layer is milky white, which gives the appearance of blue, it is called nicolo. Stone was meant to be engraved, but never was. As Holly said, carnelian, although I suspect it is really a banded chalcedony that has been dyed.

Yes. The light here is miserable at the moment. Grey and very British. I only have an iPhone so best I could do.
They are a royal blue with gold flecks which is why I thought Lapis. Gem tester says Iolite but I'm still working out its idiosyncrasies as to what it really means as Google tells me Iolite is transparent. Here’s another pic. Sorry still not clear but gives an idea of colour.

Definitely not iolite, which looks like grey-ish amethyst. Some lapis has flecks that way, so it's quite possible.

Agree, it looks like lapis, not iolite. Give your gem tester a stern talking to, iolite is 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale, lapis 5-6.

Think it may have a fault as it's a bit wayward. I've emailed the seller this morning already as it tests things that aren't there too!

Ah - looked too dark, as in black and not blue. Glad to see the lighter picture.
