Help Identifying Yellow Speckled Dish with Victorian Scene and “198” Mark

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help me identify this decorative dish I recently came across. It features a charming illustration on the front of a Victorian-era family—two women in elegant dresses, a man in a top hat, and a child in period clothing—standing near a small tree. The rim has a patterned design with alternating dark and light segments.

The back of the dish is a glossy yellow with a speckled finish, and it has the number 198 written in black ink at the center. There are no other visible maker’s marks or stamps.

I’ve attached photos of both the front and back. I’d love to know:

• Who might have made this dish?
• What time period could it be from?
• Whether it’s part of a larger set or collection?

You don't give material or size but... A Google Images search identifies it as a mid-century enamel trinket bowl by Steinböck of Austria.

Very charming little dish! I noticed on the links posted that they were painted different colors, the clothing, the back of the bowl.

All of those bowls and the ones now listed on ebay as Steinbock are enamel over metal, not ceramic.

 

Steinbock was an enamelware studio that closed in 1993, so yes, but the Lefton ones are ceramic.
