Featured large bali trunk carving(saucy..ish)

hi folks something else i picked up at my friends house clearance shop yesterday

odd partially carved balinese trunk carving

saw it in the closed shop window (well not all of it)

seems to have an implied adult theme, which only makes it more interesting (perhaps i'm imagining it by i swear thats supposed to be a tongue ?

wood stamped or carved to base

not a particularly fine carving, but a few nice little areas

its photographed better than i thought, unsure of age

any thoughts or info appreciated

 

foot worship, or some kind of goddess worship ?

he's really quite in there isn't he, wonder if its intentionally grotesque

Not that i know a lot about these but I think this is depicting Shiva being swallowed by Rudra. Hindu Mythology lesson 1. lol

Dewi Ratih in the jaws of Kala Rau.

One day the demon Kala Rau wanted to drink from the Tirta Amerta or the spring of eternal life (Sanskrit Amrita, the nectar of immortality), which is reserved for the Gods. He was seen by Dewi Ratih, the Goddess Dewi in her aspect as Goddess of the night and the moon. Dewi Ratih quickly warned the God Vishnu, guardian of the spring.
Vishnu arrived just as Kala Rau took his first sip. Vishnu threw his cakra (disc) at the demon and decapitated him. Kala Rau’s body died, but the head, which had touched the Tirta Amerta, became immortal.
Ever since, the angry head of Kala Rau follows Dewi Ratih on her voyage across the night sky, seeking revenge. Occasionally he catches up with her, and tries to swallow her, but she always manages to escape.
When Dewi Ratih disappears in Kala Rau’s mouth, we have a lunar eclipse. When she escapes, the moon appears again.

i think it was probably the fact that he was a demon

i was thinking oi..........not on my watch sunshine

but happy he got his head chopped off
