Blue Art Glass Bowl Vase

Thanks a lot for the great research. The piece is thick and heavy. Not finding any etched numbers but I will look again.

 

I had cross posted these images to another website. A couple of folks chimed in with "Cypriote" as well. I started to research that avenue but wasn't having much luck. I kept coming up with Charles Lotton work. I would have done a lot better in my search had I used the correct spelling. I did my searches using "Cypriot" oops.

@lauragarnet I'm glad some folks around here can spell LOL Some good sleuthing on your part.

 

Much as mis-spelling drives me nuts, there are times when it comes in handy. Back in the early days of eBay, I scored a LOT of lovely "Limoge."

 

I still find the occasional piece like that as well.

 

My favorites are the myriad variations on "tureen." Why don't sellers look things up?

 

The majority of Tiffany Cypriote pieces , if not all, with exception of the red vase, are favrile. The examples by the other suggested companies with similar finishes are also quite iridescent.
From what I have seen so far, the finish on the red Tiffany vase is the closest to mine. However, it is still a bit iridized but mine is not at all.

The PBS appraisal for the red vase is $25000. Similar or the same vase here

is estimated for just 3,500-4,500 . It has a restoration to the foot but still, quite a big difference.

 

While there are similarities to these old company pieces, I would say this is a much newer piece based on thickness of the glass, lack of iridescence, and form. I can not help provide any insight on who did make it, only that it is not likely by any of the companies mentioned. I do not see this as a Lotton piece either. I can think of no unmarked examples and it just doesn't seem right for Lotton Studios work.

 

Some areas have white substance residue. Maybe that can shed light on the used technique.

I wasn't suggesting it was Lotton, just my spelling error brought up Lotton work, as "Cypriot" was a decor line for Lotton.

 

Could the white be pulverized silica?
Here are two other Tiffany Cypriote pieces explaining the technique:

To replicate the devitrified surfaces of buried artifacts, particles of metallic oxides were applied to a mass of molten glass. This created a chemical reaction that, in turn, pitted the surface of the glass when it was held to a flame. Alternatively, a gather of molten glass was rolled over a marver (i.e. steel plate) covered in pulverized silica rock, a process which also pitted its surface.

I'm still working on this at intervals, whenever I have time. Honing it down.......This is a toughie. It could be from anywhere in the world. Italy, one of the Scandinavian countries, America, etc, etc. !!!

Bought this similar type of finish vase. I don't think it is old but trying to find origin and maker?
