I don't think this is very old, but I wonder if it reminds anyone of any particular cultural context.

    Clay, likely pit-fired, about 6" tall (15cm)

    Thanks in advance!

My pleasure Pott-didn't want to butt-in, but it's an intriguing piece.

I’ve got a face it reminds me of on a little mini jug. I don’t know where mine is from. The former owners were big pre columbian collectors. They got a lot of their stuff from the big NY auction houses. I’m guessing they got it from lesser dealers too though because some looked quite fake to me. Maybe they knowingly bought it that way because they liked it though. That part gets lost to history. I’ll snap a pic. I’d think somewhere Peru to Mexico though. I assume that much you figured already.

That's true! I should try and channel some of that....

Yeah thanks J Dagger. I think this is 'trying' to be a Pre-Columbian piece but in hand it simply doesn't look that old. The edges and bottom are simply not worn enough, the patina doesn't seem right, etc.

But I'd love to see something similar.

He looks like a seal.(LOL) Happy little dude. He almost looks like an Alaskan face done in Peruvian ceramic.

How did you get a sculpture of what I look like groggy in the morning??!?! :playful:

I would have bought him. I love a sculpture that may not be technically amazing but makes you happy to look at. I would name him Potato.
