I purchased this a couple of weeks ago but not got round to listing it yet. Reason being that I don't know what to call it. I've found a similar thing by Rosenthal called 'puzzle bowls' but I'm not convinced. I've also seen similar called oyster bowls. Again I'm not 100% convinced.

Those are really nice, but I can see why you're not convinced. I'm having trouble imagining how they would be used. Maybe for 6 different toppings or condiments?

I've seen similar and they are described as being used for deviled eggs. Not knowing the size of your oval dishes, I am only guessing what it might be.

I don't know the size, but it looks like a set I used to have for stuffed avocados.

I think you're right. There are a number of sets online referred to as 'avocado bowls with platter' and 'an avocado service'.

I searched for both puzzle bowls and oyster dishes and the results were nothing like my thingy. I was thinking along the lines of dips or something on a buffet.

13cm x 8cm. Bit big for eggs but with some frilly bits around the edge it could work.

I think you have hit the avocado on the head.

Finger bowls. That is what they remind me of.

Well, the decoration tells you what those one are for, LOL! Sure, why not. But you could use the bowls for any nibblies. What's in a name? :D

My grandmothers China had a set of finger tip bowls. As a kid she gave me ice cream in them. Agreed can be used for any nibbles!
