    Hi Folks

picked these up yesterday at a house clearance shop.

bought them for a repaint (only £5 for 3)

theres zero damage i can see to the glass so repainting them in touches won't be no big deal

any ideas on age or origin ?

would there have been more ? or is 3 complete

    Cheapios ?

i see loads of this stuff EVERYWHERE so i'm not expecting quality glass, but will be nice to paint them back up

    any thoughts or info appreciated

i guess you'd call that missing black piping area damage, but are they actually glass, anybody know?

Not mine. I did have one, but it's been years. Just like the one I posted, only three lamps. From what I remember they were glass and brass plated. A 70s thing.
I see the lamps at GW sometimes, but without the shades.

I have one, but the shades are a frosted and spotted glass. They're Tiffany repros so they've been made a long time. I think most popular in the 80s? Mine is differently not old lol.

Good luck with the restore attempt! I would try the one with major loss first to test my paint types/mixtures. Do you have glass paint, or are you getting some?

Hi mirana, no not specific glass paint, but will look into it all before starting, can i ask if there is a major difference to normal enamels?, if costly i might take a short cut if they are cheapios.

the piping will be a challenge, didn't really take that into consideration

"Enamel paint" can mean a lot of things. It comes oil-based, water-based, nitrocellulose, vinyl...and more. That's not the same as enamel from glass powder, of course. It's become a marketing term. So you need to search what you've got and what surfaces it's meant to be used on. Typically you need something formulated specifically for glass or it won't look right and will come off.

thanks mirana, thats quite an important factor to know if i ever start wanting to sell or pass on repainted or repaired things ;)

if for reselling (things in general) i'm gonna start to have to learn the principles

It is less of a factor now we've got LED but I should also mention that these lamps can get very hot on the glass super quick with the regular incandescent bulbs. If you use the wrong type of paint it can crack, maybe off-gas...you have more things to think about than just adhering.

You were up to the challenge of the milliput and gold paint so I think you'll be just fine. :D

I think this is a very important point. Led-lamps can also get hot, btw.

If it's the stuff it looks like to me, the color is a type of plastic (acrylic?) that can easily be water-damaged,
