    Hi folks

something i bought from a house clearance shop, the guy said i could have it for a tenner because it has hardly any silver on it, (think he might have missed the point.)

i loooove it and keepin it ;)

very thin and bendy, wouldn't take a guys weight or even a womans i wouldn't think

can't work out how they got that wonderful bend :woot:

    any thoughts or info appreciated

Very nice find charlie. Bimingham, looks like 1899.
They boil it so it becomes soft enough to bend. They still do that in Indonesia, also with rattan.

Nice..I would also keep that.. Very cool indeed. Must have been more an accessorise item than a functional support walking cane. We have a vintage officer’s rattan swagger stick (but obviously shorter) Maybe yours was also used by an military officer ?(but then length and shape is more unusual)

Not sure but you might look into Jonathan Howell, they made lots of sticks with silver mounts and collars.

It’s odd because they, Henry and Jonathan are under Birmingham makers but have a London address.

thats a great insight bosk (wouldn't have known that). as remarkable as it sounds, have never seen anything from chaplin.

his looks even more bendy than mine (i guess comical)

hang on.........Charlie......bamboo cane... definitely gonna have to have a look at some chaplin films ;)

just this picture alone is breath taking to me

Hi Aj, not sure to be honest ;) think i did see footage from one of his films once, on a top 100 channel4 film thing

was just him and a small boy or girl, and can remember thinking it looked interesting

but any recommendations would be very welcome ;)
