    Anyone know what CP is?

    This question appears on a few sites.

    CP = "commercially pure" according to a few people answering that question.

    Others say it's the maker's mark.

    And some say the C could possibly be a G, with GP being 'gold plated'.

    Looks like someone tried to repair a broken cross using 10-20% more than the required amount of solder and they didn't do a very good job.

    I've seen the mark a million times. It's a badly struck G - 18k gold plated.

    Ditto, or marked by a manufacturer who doesn't understand English. I've seen it before too.
