Cartier Mark?

Good afternoon! I have a small trinket box marked .800 sterling, but it also looks like it may be marked Cartier. I researched Cartier logos, and it looks like it may be, but it’s not clear.

Doesn’t Sterling have to be 925 not 800?

 

It looks like the Old Newbury Crafters mark. Certainly doesn't look like Carter quality.

Apologies - that is correct.

 

It's sterling silver (.925), the '800' would be a production code. Cartier retailed sterling goods by numerous manufacturers, this piece by Old Newbury Crafters - not crazy about the cast teddy bear, but ONC has always produced hand-wrought silver, a step above the items provided by most other suppliers to Cartier...

Cartier as a retailer? The manufacturer's stamps weren't always present, but even if not, they're often recognizable by form and/or production numbers on the same non-Cartier pieces bearing only the maker's marks. Some of the other American firms that wholesaled silver to Cartier were Lunt, Currier & Roby, Blackinton, Watson, Worden-Munnis, Towle, Tuttle, Thomae, and likely others that I haven't run across...
