Hello. We have had this ceramic cake stand for a number of years. I am not sure where it originally came from. I am in Scotland, and a lot of our things tend to be British (not so much French or German). I have tried to do my usual research on the internet, but I have not come up with anything really. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I am not sure if it comes across in the images but it is quite uneven (not flat).

    Best wishes,

Hi James, it doesn't scream cake stand to me, Heavy ?

some measurements would be great, maybe even just a diameter ;)

if i had to guess, some kind of planter base/stand

not seeing a cake stand either. looks like wear pattern on top indicates planter stand...

Seconded or thirded. Generally, a cake plate has a sloping edge that goes down, so you can get a server under it easily and lift the cake off cleanly. That looks more like a piece meant to hold things on than to easily remove them. A plant stand makes sense.

Thanks for your reply. It weighs 1.75 kg (2.2 lbs) and has diameter 26 cm (10.2 inches). I have looked into your suggestion, and I think you are right, it is probably a planter saucer.

    Best wishes,
    James

I had a gander, and anything full of dried fruit might be worth a try.

Not for me. My mum makes scones without fruit just for me when she does dinner.
