We were in an antique shop and they had a bunch of actor life masks. I joked with the owner "If only you had a Chaney Sr.", she replied "You should have seen the room a few weeks ago, it was filled with pieces from Vincent Price's estate. Maybe it was there." I asked if these were from his estate, and she said yes. I know she's not a liar. She's a very nice lady. But, she could be mistaken. Maybe only part of the consignment lot came from his estate. Boris Karloff - Lon Chaney Jr My wife bought these for my birthday. If they came from his estate, it's an added bonus. But, that's going to be almost impossible to find out.
............if they are/were death masks...........they look pretty dead.......(no wow factor) so would think later reproductions of some kind
Is there a way to find out? She must have known who sold them to her, that would be a start. There is tension in his brow.
huh.. there was a post I saw either on reddit or facebook a few days ago where someone saw like 5 of these at a thrift store. Comments said they were of three different famous actors.
Seems if they were life masks, there would be holes in the nostrils left by straws. They have to breath somehow until the plaster sets.
Death masks are made after the person is dead. These were made so the make up artist could design and make things to put on the actors face for shooting. That's why there's so many for some actors, as their faces change, a new one has to be made. Both of these are from when they were older. It might be my post on facebook asking if anyone knows if Price actually collected these things. Though it wasn't a couple of days ago. I posted on facebook a few minutes before I posted here.
well a death mask of L chaney Jr doesn't seem to exist, so i might have jumped the gun (a few years) interesting one:
Is that Brad Pitt? When I saw the life masks, I didn't even have to look at the tags to know who they were. The one you posted, at most seems like Brad Pitt. But, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong. There's one I'm hoping to go back and get of someone very few would know who it is by the name, and I recognized him from the face. I hope it's still there. I'd have bought it when we got the other two, but they only accept cash.
Okay. Yep, now I see it. Pitt and Dean do have the same facial outline, that perfect form. I have the exact opposite.
Whatever you do, if you get a chance to see them, DO NOT see Rebel Without A Cause first. He performs like he's mentally disabled. As I watched that movie, I had no idea why he's now an icon, except that he's physically perfect.
