Spotted this odd red and pink compote thing in the thrift the other day. Obviously newer. Then, yesterday, saw these clear pieces in our local garden center. priced at $20.00 each. Glass is not the quality of the originals. Beads are slightly larger and, overall, heavier than the originals. FYI:

    Good heads-up, Brad!
Mom had several pieces, an' I recall neither my brother nor I liked it, mostly because of those weird little balls at the edge. As we were young an' vocal about our disdain, she forbid us from washing or handling it. We gave 3 pieces away when she died.

Not a terribly popular pattern so kind of odd that they chose to reproduce it. I do pick up the unusual original pieces when I see them cheap. Eventually sells for me if I can price less than ebay prices.

Original candlewick is clear glass, so a tough sale in today's market. They figure people will buy the colored pieces because it's pretty, and the pattern could be used for cheap or free instead of paying someone to design a new one.

You should have verbalized your disdain for the nightly dishware while you were at it. "You are forbidden from washing the dishes young man!"

Bro was 18 months younger...we were tasked with the supper dishes every day, an' the breakfast dishes on the weekends, since we could stand on a stool to get high enough to do the job...probably about 7 for me so 5 1/2 for him. I washed, he dried an' early on Mom or Dad would stand with us to put them away. Later on as we grew, we also did the pots, pans an' baking dishes, an' the final swamping-down of the counters an' the stove upper surface, an' on Saturdays the kitchen floor. I was rebellious, Bro not so much. That attitude cost me way more grief than the jobs themselves; Dad was quite strict, but also fair, while Mom was a softie. We were never beaten, but when all was said an' done we toed the line, make no mistake. Like all children we (mostly I) would try to 'wedge' our parents, 'tho it was expressly forbidden. More trouble, every time.

They have been reproducing this pattern for years. There used to be a website that was maintained by a woman who was a guru on Imperial Candlewick. She posted photos of the reproduction pieces & would also describe any differences from the real thing.

According to this post on Ruby Lane, Dazell Viking Glass Co. is the one behind this latest issue.

I tried searching on Google to see if I could find the website I was referring to, but I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that the lady had passed away. So I am not surprised that it was not still active.

    Does anyone remember her name?

that would be Fran Yorke; her web site was Candlewick Look A Likes. Yes, she passed away a few years ago. She also published a book on the subject. You can probably find remnants of the web site on the Wayback Machine: candlewicklookalikes.com

the pieces here are possibly Ambiance Crystal as they produced beaded edge glass in several colors:

WHen I stopped selling glassware, Candlewick was in a steep decline. But for years I purchased it and it sold very well. I especially looked for dinner plates, certain stemware pieces, cake stands (especially with the dome), along with other scarce pieces. When it tanked, it just fell through the bottom. I think it was just so plain and the odd little balls looked very breakable.

Just an FYI: I checked ebay sold listings just now and there were 557 listings for Candlewick. I was surprised at how many there were. Then I checked Cape Cod listings and shouldn't have. There was a sold listing for a scarce Cape Cod large hurricane candle with the original glass shade. The buyer made an offer and got it for less that $45. I would love to have one or two of those!
