I'm trying to figure out the age of this table that I received. It has a rectangle nails and hand joinery. They used curved nails to attach the top panels. Right now from my quick research it looks like 1800-1880's range. Let me know if anyone has any insight into this.

    Thanks,
    Susan

Could be any age, it is handmade and if that top is the finished appearance and the veneers or top surface have not been removed I would say it is some kind of worktable.
There sure are a lot of knots in those boards, suggesting to me that the surface we see is not really designed to be seen ...The horizontal darker stripes are odd, almost suggesting something was placed on top - almost as if this "table" was not a table at all but a base for a large cupboard or othe piece of furniture ..

If it is a tabletop, how were the legs attached?

the pictures are from the bottom of the table. The gouges are were they chipped away to add the curved rectangled nails to attach panels together. I thought it was bug damage at first but it's not.

    Ok it is a table!

Cutting notches for the nails is pretty normal practice and I doubt those nails are "curved" ...they look like regular old nails the got "curved" when you pulled them out!

I posted a pic after i cut off about 6 inches and cut through a nail. It's curved. Didn't know if that was a style they used.

Be nigh onto to impossible to insert a curved nail into anything. ;)

I have jars and jars of hand-forged nails so the nails themselves don't date the piece.

Almost looks like it was made from a section of old flooring, joists and all.
