-but,such is life. Most in my area don't get their rears in gear before 11 or noon, and even at that-not all seem the perkiest most attentive bunch !
PS-Perhaps another hobby would work better ?

We don't have any antique stores near me anymore.
I do wish some estate sales opened earlier.

Most of the thrifts left here open around 9 but Im not dealing with 40 people crowding around the doors to get in ! Like Hoodwill puts out treasures anymore ! Estate sales are truly a crap shoot now. Most of the time you can be there at opening yet all the "good" stuff is already gone .

When I used to sell antiques and work in art galleries, the motto was: "No one buys antiques or art before 11 am". The early morning is for the necessary things, late morning is for leisure and beauty.:playful:
Of course it is different for thrift stores etc.

One of my area antique malls closes at 6:00 PM. That means that I can't really shop there after work on weekdays.

Interesting! I would think the older crowd being into antiques and generally up earlier would make an early time profitable but i guess not!

I get up around noon most of the time if left to my own devices soooo.... Yard sales aren't a thing I've done since childhood. :hilarious:

Rather the opposite. Early birds tend to be dealers after the goods. Those with disabilities or plain old age move slower and get there later. I'm forced into that mode myself sometimes now. If I get up really early I pay for it for 48 hours afterward. At least. I haven't done a yard sale in weeks although I used to be a regular.

Did go to an estate sale today, but later. Why? I didn't even know it existed until 10:30AM. Kind of helps to advertise, and this is an experienced professional group. Older folks will make an effort, but they also PLAN. They have to. If you don't advertise four days to a week beforehand, you're taking your chances. They claimed to have put things up on a website I look at, but not earlier this week they didn't. Heck, it wasn't even there on Wednesday and today's Friday.

My retired neighbor is up at 6 AM every morning. All my grandparents were/are the same. Small sample size though. I guess I just assume everyone is enjoying that early bird life that I only get when working or my disordered sleep cycles back around. :D My parents stay up until 2-3AM and then sleep all morning though, so maybe it's their fault... I would love to do yard sales again. Especially in my overburdened neighborhood who throws away amazing things...pickers ride the alleys weekly lol. Maybe some day I'll get it together.

Maaan when we were extra poor I was set all the time. My mother was real mad every time I mentioned our nice vacuum cleaner "came from the trash". :p Furniture, lamps, lawncare, office supplies... Two months ago someone put out a brand new pressure washer. Sometimes I come home the long n bumpy way down the alley just to scope it out. :hilarious: We used to get ridiculous stuff outside the dorms downtown until the school figured it out and set up trailers to take move-out stuff to charity. Kids were throwing out literally everything and their big TVs. Especially the very rich international ones.

I hit the Thrifts when they open (9am), and would hit a mall on the way home, but the 11am open blows my schedule.

I still have a knife my grandfather found on the railroad tracks. Dull and the handle was gone. He made a new wooden handle, and it's still one of my letter openers 90+ years later. Depression babies, farm kids, and poor kids were born scroungers. They passed the love of free stuff on to me.

The University of South Carolina does a "garage sale" at the end of the spring semester. It is organized by one of the groups on campus, maybe a sorority or fraternity. They advertise for students to bring the stuff to a central location rather than leaving it in the dorm rooms or chucking it in the dumpsters. I am not sure where the money goes, but I do know it is well attended every year.

    I think I've even seen Youtube footage. It's a pretty sweet-looking sale.

Now my thrift store in the next town has decide to run online auctions.
Not buying a thing unless I can see it and judge for myself from that store.

Or inventory anyway. or traffic. Or both. It may push prices up on the rest if they try to use that to cover rent. Good luck with that.

I was in the Ill Will today, for once, and it was almost empty at 10:30am. The shelves were sparse. The only things in good supply were brand new and bought by Ill Will to sell there. They should have been in the dollar store, but Ill Will had them priced at $3.99 and $4.99.

That thrift I mentioned, had one online auction last year, so I am guessing they want to try it again.
I haven't been there in a long time because I have too much already to buy anymore and their prices were too high for most of what they had
