hi everyone. i found this older Mappin & Webb silver box. i'm pretty sure it's sterling based on the information i've found online, but i'm not seeing any definitive way to date it. other examples of their boxes that i've found online are dated to a specific year. i'm assuming the "q" is probably important in all of this, but the only info i've found on letters is referring to upper case letters. also, i've seen variations in the shape surrounding the letters(just to make it a little more complicated). as you can see, there's quite a bit of wear, which leads me to believe it's at least early 20th century. the box measures 6 7/8 inches in length and 2 7/8 inches in height. any help with dating this will be greatly appreciated...thanks

I'd take a polishing cloth to the poor thing. It looks like a card box or ciggie box, and would much much happier cleaned up.

I luv M&Wb ... for a long time..... since I was there in London.

but that's one of the most boring silver boxes with their name on it that I've ever seen.......

so ya...... make it sparkle !!!

If it's the cream and wasn't liquid, a damp paper towel takes care of the dried-up problem. Rub towel on the now-solid, and then rub the box. if it was the liquid stuff, you need a tub of the cream anyway.
