I have been working on a tray of jewelry today while watching college football, which has been sitting there waiting for me to finish it for months. I happened to turn these earrings over and was surprised to see they were marked sterling. However, I was even more surprised to see the 18K mark. I am being cautiously optimistic because I have no idea what the mark is above the 18K mark.:rolleyes:

I believe the center stone is MOP or maybe a pearl that has been cut in half. They are cold to the touch either way.

    They are 7'8" across.

I haven't tried cleaning them in any way yet, as I wasn't sure what I was dealing with & which part is actually sterling. ;)

    Those are called Mabe pearls.
They are a type of cultured blister pearl grown on the inside of oyster shells.
Looks like artisan made, maybe Japanese.
    Very beautiful!

I thank you all very much & I will go along with your ID, but it sure would make me feel better if I could find something marked in this manner.:happy:

I have just spent the last 15 minutes looking through countless listings on various sites & no one shows any marks at all. :arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::facepalm::banghead::banghead:

Also, when do you think these earrings were made?

I have absolutely zero idea when or where I bought these earrings. They have likely been hanging around here for years. I know they came in a lot because I never buy single pairs unless they are for me.:rolleyes: :smuggrin:

I had planned on selling them as part of a lot of 10 pairs of assorted earrings, but thank God, my Guardian Angel smacked me upside my head to make sure I saw the markings. ;):p:D:D:D

That translates to 7 feet 8 inches. Do you mean 7/8"?

I like them a lot. I'm sure you'll do well with them. They've got great texture. :D

Gorgeous earrings. The main part (which looks like the surface of the moon;)) is silver. As komo said, the rim and setting are 18k gold.

Most Mabe pearls come from Indonesia. They make a lot of Mabe pearl jewellery but also export Mabe pearls.
If Japanese I would expect Japanese assay marks.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I just watched the sci-fi series Bodies on Netflix. It was based on a series of graphic novels, according to what I've seen online. The unknown mark on your earrings looks exactly like an odd tattoo that appeared on the arms of people who went through a time-travel portal called the Throat.

I'm sure that has nothing to do with the jewelry mark, but came to mind as I have just finished watching the series a few days ago. Sorry for the distraction, @bercrystal ... I try not to start off-topic discussions, but just couldn't help it this time, as I finished the series, and it has stayed with me.

Based on the look of the earrings I’d think they are “bench made” by an individual artisan rather than by an internationally known brand whose mark would be catalogued. I could be wrong or it could be a small time manufacturer rather than an individual but that’s my thought. They are nice!

Yes, it was supposed to be 7/8" across.:shame::shame:

I tried using a Sunshine cloth, but didn't see much difference. I may try a moistened Q-tip around the edges to see if that makes a big difference. :):)

A lot of the pairs I saw during my searches had this type back. :):)

I am going to try doing a Google search for the mark. I took a photo of a mark I drew on a piece of paper. I'll let you know what kind of results I get from my search.:happy:

Looking forward to seeing your results! I hope you find the mark you are seeking.
I wonder whether an image search will come up with that tattoo from Bodies.

They are unusual with the mix of 18K gold & sterling silver. I saw nothing like them in my searches.:happy:

Maybe I'll luck out with the search for the mark. ;):smug:
