Hi all, this is a short post: I just ordered this Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock print with few scratches on the face of the lady, is there any way to safely restore it? Many thanks! IMG_3181.jpeg IMG_3182.jpeg

looks like they are indentations so probably better than a scratch when laid really flat

Thank you Charlie ;) I have never laid hands on these prints before, so dunno how strong that paper could be. Can I wet it and then gently pop it back when it’s soft?

that might be a bit of build up inside the crease, so won't look as bad cleaned, the back of the dent looks marked as well, so its not new damage

do not wet the paper , it's may leave water marks , and make it worse.

Yes here’s a close up, seems like there’s some dirt in it 770c57a3b81259dbc5cb34aa7975051b.jpeg

Thanks for the reminder, I also saw someone suggesting heating up and pressing… but sounds more crazy :playful:

I will try to clean & push it from the back first;) I’m sure it will look better, but seeking a way to make it better than better :D

yeah lightly does it, and refrain from anything wet, maybe even just a light dusting (inside crease)

once you get a feel for the paper its on, you'll have a better idea how to handle

The idea of messing with a wood block scares me, but she does deserve better than that ugly dirt streak.

Lol she’s not an expensive one (because of that imperfection also), so I might do some experiment in a tiny area first. But I will be as gentle as possible. I’m sure she will look better with extra care
