I'd say there are moments in the first 1931 'Frankenstein' when Karloff's superb, empathetic, but I think 1935 'Bride of Frankenstein' is better movie. Elsa Lanchester's great (short scene), but Ernest Thesiger shines-campy, almost like a Rocky Horror cast member. Bride's got a lot of humor in it-James Whale was a great director who burnt out early.
Excellent semi-bio movie (fantasy w/ some facts) about Whale is 'Gods & Monsters'.
PS-Karloff's makeup was created by the brilliant Jack Pierce, who also did this-

was just looking at a LOT of horror related movie posts on my feed this morn, one looked to have some good unseen possibilities

A list of the scariest horror movies in history

i love the THOUGHT of a good horror movie, but alas have been bitterly disappointed in that respect

most horror films i find ridiculous, a lot unwatchable, a few unsettling

only one has made me truly scared............and it isn't on the list either

Most of 'em are overacted crap or amazingly tedious or really corny.
Here 's a few I found interesting-in no particular order-Hereditary,Cure (Japanese),True Detective (1st Season),The Haunting of Hill House (Mike Flanagan),The Haunting (Robert Wise), The Woman In Black 1989 BBC,Whistle and I'll Come to You 1968 BBC.

It feels like del Toro is going to be more faithful to the book, and while I don't mind someone doing their own interpretation on things, I am really interested in a book-take. I enjoyed reading it, despite owning the Bernie Wrightson version where they let Stephen King write the forward and he spent a good chunk of it saying no one finishes it (including him) until he was forced to. I thought it was really good!

I met Wrightson (a master of horror comics) many years ago and got some Frankenstein prints from him which hang in my dining room. This is one:

Charlie-You've prob seen The Others & The Sixth Sense ?
@mirana Would've loved to have met Wrightson, up there w/ Frazetta. I believe del Toro owns some of his Frankenstein originals-I'd imagine your prints have skyrocketed since Bernie's passing ?

I don't go out of my way to watch horror films, but I did read The Haunting of Hill House and was so scared when I finished it that I threw it into the incinerator in the back yard. I was pretty young then. Saw the film later and it was pretty good. The other one the scared the bee-jaysus out of me was The Exorcist. I read the book and was OK, but the film scared me silly!

I hadn't checked because I'm never selling. :D Just looked now and i can see some aspirational asking prices but nothing too egregious. My James Jean prints are worth more and he's still kicking. I think it's because Frankenstein was Bernie's big work and he had decades to make money off it so lots of open editions, comic con appearances, etc.

Years ago, I worked for a little country newspaper in NE Alabama. The area I lived in had several summer camps, and a friend of mine owned one that had been closed for many years, but all the old buildings were still there. He rented me the care-takers cabin at the camp.

I made the mistake to taking a date to see "Friday the 13th"...

Needless to say, she didn't go home with me that night, and I didn't sleep for a week. I haven't liked horror movies since then.
