Hello, I'm here to find insurance valuations for items I inherited from my parents' estate. Any help identifying various items I have and their value is greatly appreciated. First up is a drop leaf table.

    Thank you in advance,

    Karla

Welcome Karla. Photos of top, sides, legs/feet, size, etc. would be very helpful.

We don't do valuations here. Members are all over the place, literally global, and prices vary too much depending on the market. It's also next to impossible to judge conditions from a photo. We can however tell you what something is, usually.

Thanks for the info. Identifying items is definitely helpful by itself.

Insurance valuations will require an official appraisal (usually only for high ticket items, jewelry, art), or else they go by what they (or you) find as market value or replacement value (depending on what your insurance agreement says).

It's good to make a spreadsheet as you go and record what the items are, current value estimate, and make screenshots of comparables in the market. If you have a fire 10 years from now, those values will be reassessed for changes, as far as I know.

Speaking from experience when i helped my family after a fire: We made a spreadsheet and the insurance only asked for proof of a single 4k item (which we had). They accepted everything else as written. We didn't even bother finding comparables other than a few electronics.

Thank you for this information. The spreadsheet tip reminds me of when my siblings and I took an inventory of my parents' estate items to split up among us. Different purpose, same idea.

Excellent planning! Some of the work is already done then.
