Featured indian carved stool/table

hi folks

something else i picked up today in our village antique shop for what i think was a great price. swear i've had something similar before but hazy

i'm thinking it has some age (early 20th?) or at least vintage but unsure

all seems quite nicely made and carved

any info or comments appreciated

 

Howzit Charlie,I like the setting of your photos. I have seen these side tables around quite a bit (hopefully you didn’t pay a vintage/antique price) They are nice decorative looking things but I think mass produced and fairly ‘new’ (yours I wouldn’t even think proper vintage) But maybe Iam wrong. Also maybe you do get proper antique l/vintage ones (well most probably)

 

They're quite sweet, aren't they? Those tables? Don't think terribly old but a very nice example of its kind.

Agree with comments so far... mass-produced and quite possibly new-ish, though they've been around a long time.
You can still buy them new today.
Nevertheless, pretty and useful.

 

yeah thats all Ai its really been shot in a dingy basement in slough

perhaps i added the modern look instead of vintage/antique filter by accident again

 

oh idea ! will just do a quick google image search....should tell me everything i need to know

 

still very nice...u gotta respect that carving !!

 

especially on something mass produced...............took 5 minutes supposedly

 

........so a very nice, well carved, mass produced modern table...............which actually (thinking about it) must make it quite rare

I'm afraid the previous commenters are right, made within the last 30-60 years, mass produced Indian tourist or import ware, sorry. I bet if you used the hot pin test you would find plastic in the inlay, if it were early it would have ivory.

 

interesting, thanks for the info, so 60 years at a push, would indeed be vintage at least

i still find it hard to believe it hasn't (at least) some age

i presumed they(inlays) were beatle heads (MOPS) but defo not mop, do think plastic (or other)

 

....i should feel a touch of embarrassment if wrong, but........................i doubt it

 

meaning i don't get embarrassed easily

 

can yer get spray cans of dust n cobwebs from china now as well ?
